As autumn gives way to winter, Fengxian road unveils its limited-time 'cosmetic' transformation, an annual spectacle not to be missed→ Time:2023-11-22
Recently, residents of Fengxian have noticed that seemingly overnight, the trees along the roads have transformed into a vibrant autumn and winter color palette. Layers of golden, orange, and emerald green hues shimmer under the sunshine. One of the picturesque landmarks during the autumn and winter in Fengxian is the avenue lined with Liquidambar styraciflua, located along the Nanfeng (Nanting) Highway. The avenue is divided into two sections: the Nanfeng Highway (East Ring Road - Nanqiao Road) and the Nanting Highway (Nanqiao Road - Huhang Highway), stretching a total of 2.5 kilometers, making it the longest avenue lined with Liquidambar styraciflua in Shanghai. Every autumn, this road "without leave fall clearance" is filled with swirling red leaves and blossoming "golden flowers," igniting limitless imagination about the season.
"This year, mainly due to the drop in temperature during this period, the temperature difference has become relatively large, causing leaves to change color quickly." Zhang Ming, the chief technician at Fengxian Garden, explained that in Fengxian District, the main tree species planted include American Red Maple, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ginkgo, Luan Tree, Oak Tree, and Celtis, which are known for their colorful foliage. "Typically, around mid-November, the leaves start gradually changing color, and the process takes about a month. By mid to late December, the leaves begin to fall one after another."
As a matter of fact, the landscape road with "leaves unswept" is not truly left unattended. On the contrary, to maintain the environmental standards of the landscape road, sanitation workers carry out meticulous daily cleaning operations, meticulously picking up litter and intensifying patrol cleaning efforts to ensure timely removal of debris from the road surface. In the event of rain or haze, comprehensive clearance is conducted to prevent fallen leaves from blocking drains and impeding normal traffic flow, ensuring the safety and smoothness of the road.
