Community-level "micro updates" in Fengxian bring tangible happiness to local residents→ Time:2024-01-09

The micro-updates in the community serve the dual purpose of transforming public spaces and enriching the lives of the residents. The Zhelin Residential Area in Zhelin Town has recently seen numerous delightful "minor" changes. Adding in the Hemei Building Group project, a range of "micro-updates" projects for the benefit of public wellbeing have been successfully implemented, enabling the residents to tangibly experience the convenience brought about by these updates.

At the corner of the 3rd floor in Building 20, Lane 33, Lekang Road, there is now a wall-mounted folding yellow chair, delighting the elderly residents within the building. Sitting on the folding chair, 78-year-old Mr. Xia couldn't help but express his admiration, "I live on the 5th floor, and it's quite demanding to go up and down the stairs. I used to carry a small stool with me when I went out and take a break by sitting down when I came back and got tired climbing the stairs. But now, with this courtesy chair, I have a place to rest while walking up and down the stairs. It's fantastic! Thumbs up to the community staff!"

The Zhelin Residential Area, situated within a community after the re-designation of the town system, primarily consists of aging residential complexes built in the 1980s and 1990s. These complexes are predominantly multi-story buildings with staircases. As the aging population continues to grow, the population of individuals aged 60 and above within the community now accounts for 50% of the total population. Consequently, the challenge of navigating stairs for these elderly individuals has become a widespread issue. To address this "difficulty," the general Party branch committee of Zhelin Residential Area conducted extensive research visits to gain deep insights and identify the demand for staircase chairs among the residents. After careful consideration, they decided to place wall-mounted folding chairs in 115 buildings, where there is a higher concentration of elderly residents. These chairs have a ground clearance of approximately 45 centimeters, with a maximum weight capacity of 100 kilograms. When not in use, they can be conveniently folded and placed against the wall, occupying minimal space in the stairways. When required, they can be unfolded swiftly for seating, combining safety and functionality.

In outdoor areas, however, the community suffers from a lack of adequate infrastructure, resulting in a scarcity of spaces for residents to rest. On regular days, residents often placed their unused old chairs in front of the buildings or within small gardens to rest and chat. However, most of these chairs were in a state of disrepair, with "arms or legs missing", which not only negatively impacted the community's overall aesthetics but also presented potential safety hazards.

To tackle this concern, the general Party branch committee of Zhelin Residential Area, in collaboration with the property management company, conducted extensive onsite investigations to ascertain the suitable installation positions and quantities. Consequently, a total of 23 leisure benches have been newly introduced throughout the community. "With the introduction of these benches, it is now more convenient for us to take a rest, enjoy the shade, and have casual conversations. It's great to see our community improving day by day," said resident Ms. He.

Alongside the minor physical updates, the Zhelin Residential Area has also made virtual improvements to its community's public spaces. With the evolving reading habits and the transition towards online reading, in order to accommodate the diversified learning needs of the public and create a favorable environment for reading for all, the general Party branch committee of Zhelin Residential Area renovated and upgraded the outer walls of the parking shed in front of Building 7, Lane 26, Middle Xinzhe Road. A "Talking Book Wall" has been created, enabling people to scan the QR codes on the wall using their smartphones and access a range of audiobooks for free.

"Simply with a scan on our smartphones, we can now access and listen to classic revolutionary stories and learn about the history of the CPC. As we age, reading books becomes less convenient for us, but listening to books is the perfect fit," remarked He Yaping. The "Talking Book Wall" eliminates the temporal and spatial limitations of traditional libraries, enabling community members to enjoy a novel reading experience from "visual reading" to "auditory reading" right at their doorstep. Currently, the initial collection of books included in the reading system by scanning the QR codes on the "Talking Book Wall" encompasses 12 different volumes of Party history literature. Subsequent updates will be made periodically to satisfy the evolving interests and demands of the public.

On top of this, this year has witnessed the introduction of 2 charging sheds for non-motorized vehicles, 22 public clothes drying racks, and 35 meters of corridor handrails in the Zhelin Residential Area. Notably, a revolution-themed corridor has also been renovated and upgraded. These "micro updates" demonstrate a dedication to detail and a focused approach towards addressing the pressing difficulties and problems that concerned the community most. Through small changes, minor improvements, and micro updates, they steadily elevate the residents' sense of happiness, security, and fulfillment.
