As Fengxian yellow peaches reach their peak season, the Fengxian Yellow Peach Festival has officially kicked off recently. In Qingxi Old Street, not only are there a variety of exciting activities, but also a thrilling yellow peach contest quietly underway, where local yellow peaches from various producers gather to fiercely compete for the throne of Fengxian's "Yellow Peach King".

  On the evening of August 16, at the opening ceremony of the 19th Fengxian Yellow Peach Festival in 2024, yellow peaches from local Fengxian producers were neatly sliced and arranged on plates. Each of them used their best efforts, hoping to win the favor of the experts with their subtle advantages. The reporter observed on-site that the experts were very strict in their evaluation of the "Peach King", not only tasting the flavor but also examining the appearance, conducting a comprehensive scoring to select the best "Peach King" with excellent color, aroma, and taste. Ye Zhengwen, a researcher at the Fruit Research Institute of the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, explained: "When selecting yellow peaches, firstly, we look at the appearance - even coloring, golden yellow, round and intact shape, clean fruit surface without blemishes, disease spots, or insect marks. Secondly, the taste - while the flesh is evenly golden yellow, the texture should be relatively fine, sticky, and pleasantly sweet and sour."

  After fierce competition, the yellow peaches grown by Shanghai Xianfeng Agricultural Products Marketing Cooperative and Shanghai Muen Agricultural Cooperative were selected as the "Peach King", unveiling the mystery of the gold award. It is reported that the main variety currently on the market is the Jinxiu yellow peach, which has a relatively good overall performance. The weather has been quite good recently, with strong sunlight. At the same time, with the improvement of cultivation techniques by Fengxian fruit farmers, using organic fertilizers and grass cultivation methods, the overall fruit quality has also been enhanced.

  It is understood that the area of Fengxian yellow peaches is nearly 8,000 mu, accounting for nearly half of the total fruit tree area in Fengxian District. The supply period of Fengxian yellow peaches lasts from mid-June to mid-September. In addition, from August 17 to 18, this Yellow Peach Festival will also hold a special agricultural product exhibition and sale on the 1st floor of LongFor · Shanghai Jinhui Paradise Walk. The 28 local yellow peaches participating in the yellow peach contest will reappear, where citizens can come to taste for free and also purchase their favorite yellow peaches on-site.
