Fengxian's "Guyu Tianyuan" Café: Harvesting Rice, Sowing Rapeseed, Four-Season Countryside Charm Time:2025-11-27
Golden rice is harvested in the autumn and rapeseed is sown in the winter, promising a riot of spring blossoms. Recently, "Guyu Tianyuan" Paddy Field Café in Yimin Village, Xidu Sub-district, Fengxian District was abuzz with the rice harvest. Visitors were fully immersed in the joy of harvesting rice and savoring the fresh, new rice dishes. As the rice is gathered, the fields are immediately prepared for the sowing of rapeseed seedlings. This innovative crop rotation of "rice + rapeseed" ensures that the countryside is a year-round destination for leisure, with each season bringing its own unique charm.
Upon entering the café, visitors are greeted by the sight of lush rice fields, where plump grains of rice form waves of gold. Last weekend, families flocked to this place, drawn by its allure. They rolled up their pants and ventured into the fields, learning to harvest and thresh under the patient guidance of villagers. This hands-on experience allowed them to truly appreciate the toil of farming and the sheer delight of reaping a bountiful harvest. "We aim to create a space just outside the city where people can reconnect with the earth and relive their cherished childhood memories," said Fu Danfeng, the manager. She described the harvesting event as an intimate dialogue with both customers and nature, offering city dwellers a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the simple joys of rural life.
The newly-harvested rice was swiftly transformed into a delectable feast on the dining table. In the kitchen, the chef skillfully crafted dishes with the new rice as the ingredient, introducing unique creations like rice-scented coffee and new rice risotto. These dishes brought the fresh sweetness straight from the fields to the table. "The new rice is soft, glutinous, and sweet, with a pure, natural flavor," said a visitor. The pristine environment and mouth-watering cuisine offer a rare moment of relaxation in an otherwise hectic life.
Once the rice was harvested, the farmland swiftly embraced its "new mission". Villagers were actively engaged in plowing the land and sowing rapeseed seedlings, presenting a lively and busy picture. The "rice + rapeseed" crop rotation model is known to enhance soil fertility and crop quality while ensuring that the rural landscape evolves with each season. In the following spring, the farmland will transform into a breathtaking golden sea of flowers, further solidifying the "Flower Field Café" as a must-visit destination.
"Looking ahead, we plan to introduce a variety of engaging agricultural activities that align with the changing seasons," said Fu. "Guyu Tianyuan" centers on a four-season crop rotation model, enabling city dwellers to conveniently enjoy a leisurely experience of admiring rapeseed blossoms in spring, harvesting rice in autumn, and savoring fresh produce year-round - all within a one-hour drive. This approach not only enhances the rural entrepreneurial landscape with diverse vitality but also offers a unique connection to nature. Currently, the first batch of new-rice-themed creative dishes is now available. We welcome anyone interested to visit, check in, and immerse themselves in the natural bounty and agricultural charm of Fengxian's countryside.
