Bay of Red Leaves, Best Time to Visit: Red Leaf Festival Opens at Shanghai Haiwan National Forest Park Time:2025-12-10

In the gentle early winter sun, the "canvas" of Shanghai Haiwan National Forest Park appears to have been splashed with vibrant colors - over 200,000 fir trees shift from green to gold, then blush into deep red and ochre, creating a breathtaking, multi-layered landscape painting. Just an hour from the city center, this forest is now at its most dazzling time of year.

This year, the "red makeover" arrived earlier than usual. A red leaf festival blending natural beauty, heartfelt public welfare, and trendy culture has also begun, offering more weekend options for visitors.

Strolling along the newly extended 300-meter waterfront boardwalk and floating bridge, visitors step into a labyrinth of vibrant colors. Towering redwoods line both sides, their vivid reflections dancing on the water, creating a dreamy, symmetrical scene. Park staff member Wang Shuai noted that the boardwalk's extension offers easier access to the forest waterway's heart. "You can see the whole forest water town," he said. If boats are busy, he suggested walking the boardwalk to enjoy the leaves and capture the forest's shifting light from various angles. He also reminded visitors to watch their step around the naturally growing aerial roots and protect this delicate forest ecosystem.
