Summer Chill Hits Shanghai as Bihai Jinsha Kicks Off Swimming Season Time:2026-06-26
Bihai Jinsha, a national AAAA tourist attraction in the Bay Tourist Resort of Shanghai's Fengxian District, officially kicked off its 2026 swimming season on June 27. The scenic area has completed all preparations, including facility inspections, water quality testing, and lifeguard staffing, and the season will run through September 6. This year, operating hours are extended to 9:00 p.m., with new nighttime attractions added to the lineup.
Situated at Shanghai's southern edge facing Hangzhou Bay, the Bihai Jinsha Scenic Area opened in July 2006 and ranks among the largest man-made beach resorts in China. Its swimming zone covers roughly 18,000 square meters and can hold up to 10,000 swimmers at a time. Wu Chunfang, general manager of Shanghai Bihai Jinsha Investment Development Co., Ltd., said the scenic area has made thorough preparations this year, from facility maintenance and sanitation to landscaping, with water quality testing and lifeguard deployment fully in place. New this season is "Starlit Sail," a nighttime program that takes visitors out to sea aboard sailboats for a cruise under the stars.
News of the season opening has drawn wide public attention, with many parents already bringing their children to the beach ahead of the crowds. The scenic area operates daily from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the swimming season, offering a range of water sports and beach activities including kayaking, water bikes, and beach go-karts. The Fisherman's Wharf night market opened the same day. The scenic area says it welcomes residents and visitors alike to come and soak up the summer seaside experience.
