Just after the beginning of autumn, the early rice variety "Rice Flower Fragrance" has already been emitting bursts of rice flower aroma early in its fields. Fengxian has also ushered in the first sickle of rice harvest.

  Around 9 a.m. on August 8, this grain cooperative in Jinhui Town had already started getting busy early. The "Rice Flower Fragrance" variety in the fields was ready for harvest that day. As far as the eye could see, the rice ears were golden and heavy, bending the branches. Harvesters were shuttling back and forth in the fields, completing the multiple steps of rice harvesting, threshing, and straw crushing in one go. Next to the "Rice Flower Fragrance," the well-known early rice variety "National Day Rice" was currently still in the grain filling stage and was expected to mature in more than a month. The person in charge told the reporter that the "Rice Flower Fragrance" variety was introduced from Northeast China under the guidance of the Extraordinary Labor Model Studio. It has a short growing period and was sown earlier, so it can mature and be harvested in early August. This year, the cooperative planted about 30 mu (2 hectares) of "Rice Flower Fragrance," which could all be harvested on that day and meet the public in the market around August 15.

  After harvesting the rice, a plow also immediately drove into the field to carry out deep tillage. The blades on the machine crushed the rice roots and turned them into the ground together with the previously crushed straw as green manure to improve soil quality and enhance the quality of the next crop.

  "Under the guidance of the Extraordinary Labor Model Studio, we have adopted a crop rotation model of rice, corn, and green manure." Talking about the economic value of the planting model, Xu Yi, a seed technician at the district agricultural technology center, was effusive. "Because the 'Rice Flower Fragrance' variety was sown earlier and has a relatively shorter growing period, it can fetch a higher unit price of around RMB 18 per jin (500 grams) when sold off-season. In addition, after harvesting, we can still sow a crop of corn before August 15. This year, we plan to plant the gold award-winning 'Black Gold 699' sweet and waxy corn, which can further increase the land productivity. After harvesting, we can also timely sow milk vetch green manure."

  Shen Feng, director of the Zifu Grain Cooperative, told the reporter that although they encountered continuous high temperatures this year, the rice quality has improved compared to previous years. "Rice Flower Fragrance" was grown entirely without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, using only organic fertilizers. The rice grains are longer, and the milled rice is crystal clear and has a faint fragrance. It has a fragrant, sweet, sticky, and smooth taste, which is very popular among consumers. According to on-site measurements by professionals, affected by factors such as bird damage and weather, the yield of "Rice Flower Fragrance" this year is slightly lower than last year, at around 580 jin per mu.
