Fengxian's Young Athletes Bag 9 Golds, 6 Silvers, and 6 Bronzes Time:2025-08-11

The 2025 Shanghai Youth Sports Elite Series Sailing and Windsurfing Finals & Shanghai Youth Sailing and Windsurfing Championships & Shanghai Youth Sailing League (Autumn) were wrapped up at the Fengxian Bihai Jinsha Water Sports Center. This major event, hosted by the Shanghai Administration of Sports, brought together 254 young athletes from 10 districts, marking the largest participation in four years.

On the opening day, competitors braved a sweltering two-hour wait onshore in nearly 35℃ heat. But at 10 a.m., perfect winds arrived - steady at 10-12 knots, with gusts up to 18 knots. These winds put competitors' mark rounding skills and route planning to the test, but they powered through, finishing 12 races across six categories, like OP and ILCA4.

The Fengxian Sailing Team, trained in partnership between the Fengxian Youth Amateur Sports School and Qilang Youth Sports Club, fielded 31 athletes. Over four days of intense racing, they shone in several categories, clinching 9 golds, 6 silvers, and 6 bronzes. Despite the fickle winds, the athletes kept their courses steady, showing remarkable skill.

Fengxian's impressive results are attributable to years of building a strong youth training system for sailing and windsurfing. The Fengxian Youth Amateur Sports School and Qilang Youth Sports Club work together to create a training path that includes selecting talents from schools, holding summer camps, and helping athletes advance in competitions. Each year, more than 500 young people join the summer camps, and many are enrolled by the municipal sports teams.

Bihai Jinsha, the long-time event organizer, leverages its natural waters to support year-round athlete training. Top-notch dock facilities host city and national competitions, drawing a growing crowd of spectators.
